Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Sunday 05.03.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be aware in steep areas with fresh wind slabs, they can be very unstable above a layer of buried surface hoar.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of surface hoar

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 4. March 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 4. March 2023

2 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -15 °C to -8 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 5. March 2023

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -17 °C to -7 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
